Let’s talk about personal days and taking personal days. And by personal days, I mean taking a day to spend with yourself and allowing yourself to slow down for a minute. All too often we are made to feel bad for needing a personal day away from work or from life in general because we are told or made to feel like because you need a personal day you can’t handle stress or you are being dramatic and should just push through. Taking a personal day should be something that we should encourage. We aren’t robots and we can’t work 24/7 without reaching some sort of burn out stage very quickly and this is why taking a personal day is so important.

A personal day gives you a chance to recharge yourself, rest and reset your mind. We live in a day and age where stress is apart of our daily lives. We are always on the go and our society promotes that ‘’keep hustling and never stop in order to reach your goals and be a success’’ and because of this we feel like we should be on the go 24/7 and if we aren’t we immediately think we are going to be left behind the ones that haven’t taken a moment to just stop. It gets exhausting.

I want to take the shame out of taking a personal day, slowing down and resting. There is absolutely nothing wrong with waking up in the morning and feeling like you need a day to yourself. A day to give yourself a little TLC.  Obviously don’t abuse it by taking a day off work every single month or week but take it when you need it. We need to know that if we need a personal day, we can take it without feeling bad about it.

So how do you know when its time to take a personal day to rest and care for yourself?

  1. You feel fatigued and demotivated no matter how much rest you get
  2. You struggling to find that work-life balance and find yourself working too much
  3. You have stopped enjoying your hobbies or doing them at all.
  4. You feel uninspired and have no desire to do anything that would usually excite you
  5. You feel negative and struggle to get yourself out of that negative vibe

These are just a few simple signs that it’s time to take a day to yourself. Belive me, there are a million other sign as well but I use these as quidelines for myself and they work. 

Remember to take care of yourself. You are not a robot and you deserve a break. Take that break when you need it, embrace it and get ready to take on the world.
